- Polio (polio) *
- Measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) *
- Meningococci (partly *)
- Early summer meningoencephalitis (TBE)

The vaccinations marked with * are available free of charge to all children living in Austria as part of the child vaccination program at the recommended times.
Obligation to inform about vaccinations
There is no compulsory vaccination in Austria. The decision as to whether or not someone wants to be vaccinated rests with themselves or with the person in charge of care and upbringing. In order to be able to reach a decision for or against a vaccination, information and clarification from the doctor are required. Before carrying out the vaccination, doctors are therefore obliged to inform the person being vaccinated (or, before the age of 14, a parent or the person responsible for care and upbringing) about the disease to be prevented and the vaccination.
Whom can I ask?
The implementation of the vaccination program is not carried out uniformly nationwide. Each federal state regulates how and where vaccinations are carried out as part of the free child vaccination program. More information can be obtained from the state medical directorates or the vaccination centers of the federal states.
How are the costs going to be covered?
The costs for vaccinations covered by the free vaccination program are jointly covered by the federal, state and social insurance companies. The BMSGPK website provides information on the free child vaccination program.
